Postmaster of the Pineland Post Office, Meschla Valbrua, can now proudly display the American flag on its newly erected flag pole. In 2004 Hurricane Charley distorted a lot of Pineland and Bokeelia. The historical "Smallest Post Office in the U.S." located in Pineland sustained a lot of damage including the flag pole, which had been patched for the past 15 years.
Pineland and Bokeelia residents who use the little Post Office to receive their mail asked for the flag pole to be replaced. Some even offering to purchase a new pole. To the surprise of some of the residents in October of 2019 a new pole was now in place thanks to the Randell Research Center.
The little Pineland Post Office was established in 1902, it has wood-floors and one-room relic of pioneer Florida originally located waterside for the convenience of the island mail boat.
Many visitors over the years have taken photographs of the "Smallest Post Office in the U.S." This is a very popular Post Office and now it can again be showcased in its glory. Black and white photo herein shows the Post Office as it appeared in the '60s, not much different.
