Vehicle Hits Multiple Pedestrians in Matlacha -1 Deceased

The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District reported, "At 5:50pm, crews responded to a restaurant in Matlacha for reports of multiple people struck by a vehicle. Capt. 150, E-151, E-153, E-154, PI-1, PI-2, PI-3 along with 4 ambulances and 2 EMS Supervisors responded to the scene where 3 victims were trauma alerts transported to the hospital by ground ambulance and 1 victim was a trauma alert transported by helicopter. 1 victim was found to be deceased.

Fort Myers, FL, April 12, 2024 – Pine Island residents seeking assistance from LeeCares have two more opportunities complete an application with a case manager on-island. LeeCares case managers will be at the Pine Island Public Library, 10701 Russell Road, Bokeelia, on April 17 and April 24 from 10a.m. until 2:30 p.m. 

"Windows" Hijack Error on Lee County Electric Coop Website

Monday 3-18-24, When attempting to login to their Lee County Electric Coop website and pay their monthly bill, some Windows desktop users got an error virus which looked like an official Microsoft Windows Warning (don't they all.) The virus locked up the monitor screen with blinking boxes and stated the the user's computer had been essentially hijacked, that the user should not turn off the computer and instead call a phone number to unfreeze the computer.

Lee County Animal Serv to Hold Vaccine Clinic on Pine Is, Nov. 2nd

Join Lee County Domestic Animal Services and the Lee County Sheriff's Office for a pet vaccine clinic for the residents on Pine Island.

This will be held 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at 5630 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia, just east of the fire station.

Lee County to make resources available Thursday to residents experiencing isolated coastal flooding

Fort Myers, FL, Aug. 30, 2023 – Lee County Government will offer two locations Thursday for residents from coastal areas who experienced flooding due to Hurricane Idalia and need resources.

Main Matlacha Bridge South Side Steel Barrier Install May Finish By End of Aug

In the absence of any unanticipated delays, the 40 foot corrugated steel barrier installs on south and east side of the main bridge approach in Matlacha is expected to be completed by the end of August, 2023. Crews are presently working 7 days a week.

After Hurricane Ian, The Matlacha Hookers adopted a GoFundMe account for hurricane relief and then continued to fundraise for the Greater Pine Island Area. The members decided to use a portion of the money raised for hurricane relief and rebuilding for the locally owned and operated Pine Island businesses.
