The Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Card Exchange is a networking event for members of the GPICC and guests.

This year’s 2014 event started off with the singing of the National Anthem by "Trailer Park Barbie." Then the Pledge of Allegiance was recited with the colors being presented by Commander Frank Trauge

Of local interest is the vote on the millage increase for the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District.

The Ballot wording is as follows:

As it turns out, the taxpayer cost of the proposed Pine Island Fire Department millage is much larger than I had previously understood. I have therefore changed my opinion.

The Greater Pine Island Kiwanis awarded 19 scholarships to island graduates. The presentation had to be broken up into two different Friday’s since there were so many who were awarded this year.
