Matlacha Drawbridge Repair
Major Construction Completed
Update

        The Lee County Board of  Commissioners approved an increase to the original bid  by Coastal Marine Construction Inc. for "Immediate Repairs to Matlacha Bridge",  for an estimated not-to-exceed amount of $100,000.00, for additional repairs that were discovered while the work was being performed.
     In accordance with the Lee County Contract Manual Bid Waivers, the amounts presented to the Board  September 25, 2001,  for expenditures over $50,000.00 require Board approval.
   The contractor will complete additional repairs to the Matlacha Bridge. 


Holloway Fishing Tournament

     The 4th Annual Bobby Holloway, Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament was held April 6th. 
Sixty-four boats registered and although the limit had been set at 55, Elsie Sterns, one of the directors for the tournament explained, "We were going to stop with the 55 boats, but nine boats that had  participated in past year's registered at the last minute and we couldn't tell them no. So our limit grew to 64 with 62 being in the adult division and 2 being youth division. This was a wonderful turnout for the tournament".

TimberJack Competition and Concert

    The last weekend in April was the time for a stop on the national TimberJack competition and country 
music concert and the place was the German-American Club on Pine Island Road. The "Best SW Festival" is held every year by Cape Coral Parks and Recreation together with other

"Matlacha Marines"  Hold Matlacha Seafood Festival

The Matlacha Marines Seafood Festival, held on April 14, 2002 in Matlacha, was a huge success for the new organization. Throughout the day, several thousand people passed through the grounds of Pine Bay Seafood enjoying fresh seafood dishes, desserts, beverages and live music. A donation of $3500 will be presented to the Matlacha Hookers from the proceeds.
