MangoMania 2002 Kick-Off (Continued from front page)

The Chamber's tries to involve as many Chamber Members businesses as possible in its functions. As in years past, they had the official MangoMania

Cake made by another Island business, Lovey's Baked Goods located in Bokeelia. As the committee members gathered for photos, the volunteers and guests talked about MangoMania. With less than a week left, the committee is working night and day to make sure they have covered all the details, for those who attend
MangoMania and for the vendors alike.
A sunset cruise was planned for all who attended the Kick-Off, but poor weather caused it to be rescheduled for a later date.
Pat Burman, MangoMania Chairman for third year, said her committees have worked very hard to plan an exciting and fun MangoMania 2002. They have a lot planned for the children; pony rides, train rides, games and good wholesome food. For the adults we

have planned some of Pine Island's and S.W. Florida's best entertainment. She suggests that while you are listening to the music, check out the restaurants for food to suit every palate. "We have vendors offering Pine Island farm raised Talapa, shrimp, pork BBQ and so much more. And we have a real good mix of
vendors with all kinds of arts and crafts, products and services…so check them all out. I would like to thank all of my committee members and volunteers who are doing a wonderful job and without whom, none of this would be possible. Their hard work is paying off and we already have more than twice the vendors as last year. We intend to showcase all the businesses that participate, get our event attendance up, and to promote our beautiful Island Pine Island in the process.

grants, the EPA currently has arrangements with the DEP to provide funds at low interest rates with convenient repayment procedures; that no repayment is due until 6-7 months after completion of a project; and that $4.8 million has already been provided for preliminary work on several projects. Mr. Diaz stated that projects included in the Wastewater Facilities Plan total approximately $38.7 million, and that projects in the Water Facilities
Plan total approximately $71.3 million. Mark Brewer, with Angie Brewer and Associates, whose firm serves as funding consultant for several communities and specializes in the SRF Loan Program; pointed out that the projects included in the plans were identified through a lengthy process with County staff. One of the projects included in the Wastewater Facilities Plan is a deep injection well at Pine Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. Mr. Brewer explained that the 20-year repayment plan of the SRF Loan Program, with a current interest rateof 3.11%, will allow for interest savings of about $63 million on the water projects and about $32 million on the wastewater projects, as compared to use of a bond issue for the funding. He pointed out that Board approval of the Plans is an important step to allow the County to access the SRF money representing $95 million savings to the County citizens.
