Pine Island Residents Support
Breast Cancer Awareness
Mary and Ray Jardine
heard that an island resident and friend Marci Perry was making the
long trip to California for the Breast Cancer Research 60-mile walk.
This walk would take place over 3 days with Marci sleeping in a tent
the first two-days and in a motel the third. Funds would
be needed to make this trip so they decided to have a concert
at the famous St. James Hardware. The money raised would help Marci
(photo left) with some of the expenses and some would be donated to
the Breast Cancer Research Fund. Ray (photo
above leading the "Pine Island Minstrals") and
Mary started calling all their friends to help organize the event.(Continued
from front page )
Jennifer Hollaway at Local T's made T-shirts in St. James
City and all the proceeds were given to the event. Pork Bellies sold
Pulled Pork sandwiches and gave $1.00 back towards the event for each
sandwich
sold. They also called local businesses for door prizes. Some companies
donated fishing trips; local artists donated thousands of dollars in
art. Restaurants donated dinners and so much more. The island again
opened their arms and pockets.
Ray, a popular musician in the area called his musician
friends and asked them to perform at the event. Every one he called
said yes and all
