OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS
Do you have a problem controlling your weight? If so, why not join Overeaters Anonymous (OA), a group meeting for one hour every Tuesday, year round, at 9:30 a.m. in Matlacha Community Center. You can receive and give encouragement by sharing experiences with compulsive overeaters.
OA started in 1960 in California, using then and now the 12-step program of AA. Participants are reminded that inner changeis necessary, with belief in a Higher Power. At each meeting, the book "For Today" is used, with each person, in turn,

reading the passages.
         Subjects such as Faith and Freedom bring forth comments: "Admitting is the first step to freedom," "Faith in the power of the 12-step program is stronger than ever," and "We must put down doubts."
   Compulsiveness can be controlling in many areas of your life. Remember to not become a slave to your scale.
         This group extends a hand and a heart. You will discover you are not alone. Currently there are four attendees. Call 283-8049 for information.

Pine Island Emergency
Response Team

The Pine Island Emergency Response Team has published a community Hurricane Preparedness Guide with important island specific information. The handouts are available at the Pine Island Library, Winn Dixie, island Churches and several other local businesses. We encourage all residents to pick up a copy!

In the event of a hurricane, the ERT is involved in evacuating individuals
with 'Special Needs' to a safe inland location. If you or if you know
someone who is handicapped, impaired or disadvantaged and is interested in this assistance, please obtain a registration form by calling the Pine
Island United Methodist Church: 283-2386.
