Elk's Award "Citizen of the Year"

     Burman also started karate class for the kids on the island 20 years ago, a lot who earned their black belts. She has also volunteered her family’s time and equipment running the sound system for many island events such as MangoMania, Breast Fest, Randell Research Center Arts & Authors and Archeology Day as well as Taste of Pine Island.
     She and her husband own and operate Ad&PrintCraft located in Bokeelia, they produce commercial printing and web site development. Their business has also helped a lot of other non-profit organizations and new Pine Island businesses just getting started.
    Sue Trimble was awarded Greater Pine Island Elks of the Year. Sue has worked many years as a member of the house committee as the entertainment chair and helps to decorate for each event at the lodge. Sue has always been a lead person that you can go to when the lodge needs to have something done. She is always ready to lend a helping hand.
Carol Neilson also recognized as officer of the year by her Elks Lodge. Carol has always done a bang-up job as secretary for the lodge and she takes that further step and personally talks to each new candidate and makes them welcome to the lodge.
    Presented with the Grand Exalted Rulers Award of Excellence was member Jo deShaw. Jo has worked as the veterans’ services chair for many years and has organized groups to feed the homeless veterans. She also established the Al deShaw Memorial Fund to obtain things for the hospitalized veterans at Bay Pines and has raised $10,000 over the year. She is always there for the lodge.
    Wayne Bartelt was given the Award of Excellence. Wayne is always willing to help the lodge, he has cooked, he has planned many major events. He organized the lodges first Elktoberfest and was planning to make the next one event better. If you need help around the lodge the person to ask is Wayne.

    Admittance to “Taste” is still only $5 donation per person at the gate and kids under 10 are free.
