There was a vehicle and bicycle traffic related fatality near Lolly Rd. & Stringfellow on north Pine Island at approximately 5:15 PM. Mon., March 11,2019. The road was closed while the incident was being investigated by the Lee County Sheriff's Dept.  John Lackey III, in a 2018 Kia Rio was northbound on Stringfellow Rd, south of Lolly Rd. while  Linda Potter, 74,  riding a tricycle was on the bike path (which is on the southbound side of the road) also heading northbound on Stringfellow Rd ahead of the Kia. Potter began to make a left turn onto Lolly Rd. crossing southbound lane as the Kia approached the tricycle, Lackey failed to slowdown causing the front of his vehicle to collide with the rear of the tricycle. Lackey came to a controlled stop on the west shoulder (bike path side) of Stringfellow Rd facing north. Potter was pronounced deceased on scene.

The fatality investigation has been turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol who will continue investigate. The next of kin are being informed.
