Leoma Lovegrove of Matlacha makes an art statement about the BP Oil Spill. Her art installation is located at her national headquarters, Lovegrove Gallery & Gardens, 4637 Pine Island Road, Matlacha, FL. She was inspired to create the Public Art Installation after trying to donate $100,000. of her original wildlife art to C.R.O.W.

Ceitus Boat Lift/Barrier

UPDATE: Pine Island Business Applied for Special Exception

Coast Connection:  Owner Scott Player has applied for a special exception to allow beer and wine sales as well as a setback variance at this facility,  which is a marina and emerging entertainment complex at the end of Porto Bello Street in Bokeelia.     Some neighbors object, but numerous customers of the facility support the application.

Proposed Dollar Store

The applicant for a proposed facility just south of Boat Lift US on Stringfellow Road has resubmitted elevations (drawings) showing the proposed design. There are still questions as to whether the proposal meets the required Pine Island commercial design standards of Old Florida or Cracker style buildings, and a public meeting to review the application has been set for 6 p.m.

Matlacha Hookers 'Hooked on Seniors' Dance

The Matlacha Hookers are hosting a Dinner Dance at the Elks Lodge #2781 on Saturday, June 26 to benefit the Beacon of Hope’s Senior Services.    The doors will open at 4:00pm and dinner will be served from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.     Dancing will be from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm featuring one of Pine Island favorites,  The Bombaleros. 

The Matlacha Hookers are joining efforts with the Beacon of Hope to reach out to Senior Citizens needing assistance in our community.    This event represents the first in the Matlacha Hookers ‘Hooked on Seniors’ series of events.
