Proposed Dollar Store

The applicant for a proposed facility just south of Boat Lift US on Stringfellow Road has resubmitted elevations (drawings) showing the proposed design. There are still questions as to whether the proposal meets the required Pine Island commercial design standards of Old Florida or Cracker style buildings, and a public meeting to review the application has been set for 6 p.m.

Matlacha Hookers 'Hooked on Seniors' Dance

The Matlacha Hookers are hosting a Dinner Dance at the Elks Lodge #2781 on Saturday, June 26 to benefit the Beacon of Hope’s Senior Services.    The doors will open at 4:00pm and dinner will be served from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.     Dancing will be from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm featuring one of Pine Island favorites,  The Bombaleros. 

The Matlacha Hookers are joining efforts with the Beacon of Hope to reach out to Senior Citizens needing assistance in our community.    This event represents the first in the Matlacha Hookers ‘Hooked on Seniors’ series of events.

Grow House Discovered

Deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a St. James City home Monday night, May 17th.  Neighbors called the Lee County Sheriff's Department sometime before 8 p.m. after they spotted a man push a window-mounted air conditioning unit into a home on 2630 Date St.

18 Scholarships Awarded By Kiwanis Club

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island is very pleased to announce they have awarded 18 local, Outstanding and Academics Scholarships for 2010.    These students were all first time applicants and the Kiwanis Club was very happy to award each of them $900 to help pay for their education.

Kiwanian in Haiti

This year the Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island donated 10% of their gate sales from the Taste of Pine Island to help a fellow Kiwanian in Haiti.   Thony Thermidor is the president of the Port Au Prince Kiwanis Club.   He recently returned from Haiti and spoke at the Kiwanis weekly meeting.   It is very easy to forget things that you don't see.

$200,000 Boat Stolen

While John Stenberg's was out of town helping his family recover from severe storms and flooding someone came on his property sometime during the night of May 7th, and stole his 33-foot, $200,000 boat, which was behind his St. James City home.
