TRAFFIC ADVISORY Intermittent Lane Closures - Little Pine Island Bridge
FLA DOT-MATLACHA, Fla. - Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures across the little Pine Isand Bridge on Tuesday. October 14, during daytime hours to allow crews to accept deliveries of concrete deck slabs to the worksite. The deliveries will start as early as 8 a.m. and will continue until all deck slabs are delivered. Motorists are asked to exercise caution and reduce their speed while driving through the work zone.

 

Pine Is. collects 18,500+ Lbs of Chemicals and Electronics

Second island event planned for Nov. 16 Fort Myers, FL, Oct. 23, 2024 –

Lee County Solid Waste reports that Pine Island residents dropped off more than 18,500 pounds of household chemicals and electronics at a recent post-Hurricane Milton collection event.

The county will host an additional event Nov. 16 to help islanders continue to recover from Hurricane Milton.

Near Head-on Collision

Around noon Tuesday, 10-22-24, two SUV's were involved in a near head-on collision on Pine Island Road west of the entrance to Matlacha.  No reports of injuries. . .further information as it becomes available.

Helena, Milton Aftermath

Milton added insult to injury for Matlacha, St. James and Bokeelia and, of course SW Florida in general. They both weren’t largely wind events for our area, but they were significant water events augmented by the storm winds.

The tidal surge from Milton destroyed much of the ongoing work and repair begun after Helena’s tidal surge brushed by SW Florida. Of course, there had been continued work repairing the few buildings left in Matlacha that could be repaired after Hurricane Ian.

Hurricane Milton is Coming

It is NOT the biggest, or the strongest, or the meanest hurricane ever. . .echoing the the news hype. It IS a very dangerous storm depending on where you are located and where it comes ashore. Isn't it interesting the for all the long term "certainty" about climate change they still don't know, two days out exactly where the storm will come ashore.

Anywhere around the coastline of Pine Island or Lee County . . . You must be prepared or leave.

Lee Commission Award More Than $229 Million in Disaster Recovery Grants

The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to award more than $229 million in grants for about 20 public facility and infrastructure projects funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery allocation to Lee County.

Commissioners Approve Expansion of Eastbound Right-turn Lane

Fort Myers, FL, June 18, 2024 – The Lee Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve an agreement with a developer who will donate right-of-way along Pine Island Road to allow construction to extend the eastbound right-turn lane onto southbound Veterans Parkway for motorists exiting the Matlacha-Pine Island area.
