Commissioner Manning, his staff, and the the Lee County Public Works Department have been working on a reasonable compromise to the controversy over the opening of the Matlacha Bridge during the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. while the new bridge is under construction. Discussions with the contractor have resulted in a proposal that the bridge open on the hour every hour during that time if boats are waiting to pass. It seems to me to be a reasonable solution. Please relay this message to anyone you think might be interested in this issue and ask them to provide their comments ASAP to me at coolcherokee@comcast.net or the publisher at admin@PineIslandNews.com, or to the county. I will write and publish a weekly summary of all comments that are receive. If the issue is not resolved before that time, it will also be discussed and voted on at the GPICA membership meeting on 7 December. Phil Buchanan
