Greater Pine Island Lions Club hosted the Punta Gorda Lions Club screening team at the Beacon of Hope on Pine Island July 16, 2011.
A total of 23 adults were screened with 12 ophthalmic referrals. There were no glaucoma referrals. For hearing there were 23 screened with a total of 18 referrals. A total of 28 were screened for diabetes and 6 referrals. The eye exams and glasses and hearing aids will be provided by the Greater Pine Island Lions Club, some are being referred to the Bonita Springs Lions Eye Clinic.
This was Greater Pine Island Lions Club's first experience at hosting a screening and highly recommend it to every Club. Two of our members obtained training and assist with the screenings. Other members will be available to assist with the two upcoming screenings.
On August 5th the Punta Gorda Team will again return to Pine Island for eye screening at the Creative Coast - 8 - 10:00 am This one is "closed to the public - just the school".
August 20th 9:00 - 1:00 Location yet to be determined. Children will be screened through the Beacon of Hope.
We have one new member as a result of this experience and 3 prospective members.
